We've been doing cloth diapers now for a little over a month.
We love it.
We thought that it would be a very hard transition but it's going SUPER smooth.
Since we're definitely cloth diaper people now I thought I'd talk about it a bit.
Today...
Why we did it!
(And why you can too!)
There's TONS of reasons of why to cloth diaper. I just wanted to talk about a couple of the big reasons that helped us decide to make the switch.
I wish we never had to make the switch and did it from the get go!
1. Dioxin, Tributyl-tin, sodium polyacrylate. These are just a couple of the scary chemicals that I didn't know where in disposable diapers. According to one website, Dioxin is actually banned in most countries because its connection to causing cancer. You know what's in my cloth diapers? Not those chemicals. Our girls have very sensitive skin. I think the fewer chemicals we have rubbing on their bodies the better. So they're just all around better for their skin. Since using cloth diapers, diaper rash and the need for diaper ointment has disappeared, it's amazing.
2. Cost. Sure it's a fairly decent first investment to buy the cloth diapers. But when you look at the overall savings it's pretty crazy. In the time that we used disposable diapers with our twins (it was about 10 months when you throw out the NICU time and switching to cloth) we spent somewhere in the ball park of $1,400! We even bought them online in bulk to save money. We had to buy special diapers that were for more sensitive skin. It didn't matter. There was still diaper rash...
We purchased our diapers from a new local company and they have been AMAZING! It's called Little Booties Bootique. If you buy cloth diapers at the get go, you can save in the range of $1,500 for a single baby. That's pretty nice!
3. Let's be honest...
They're REALLY FREAKIN' CUTE!
Sure their butts look huge now. But it's so cute to see them crawl around in their cloth diapers. We frequently now just put them in a t-shirt and cloth diaper for the day and call it good.
I mean, really, isn't that little but just adorable?
4. I know this is pretty much the same as reason #1, but it's really the only one that matters. It's just better for your baby. I'm sure there's all kinds of facts I could put here, but knowing that your baby doesn't get diaper rash as much, just knowing that it's safer is well worth it for me.

Cute diapers.
