Cloth Diapers Part 2

Awhile back I gave a big post about why we switched to cloth diapers.
Hopefully it got you thinking about them.
But now you're probably thinking, how on earth do you DO it (especially with twins)!
Yes, I do like to think of myself as little bit as a supermom... {grin}
But it's not that hard.
For starters, cloth diapers aren't like they used to be.
Sure, you can still get the old school pre-folds.  We decided to go a different route.
Now cloth diapers look more like a disposable diaper.  Just with snaps.
The outside is a nice cloth that is backed by a water resistant type fabric.
Inside is a super absorbant material, ours is a hemp material.
Then, with our cloth diapers you snap in a big "soaker pad" this absorbs the urine and holds the poop.
It's really simple.
If it's just wet - you snap out the insert and put in a new one.
If it's poopy - wash the whole thing.

We currently have 24 shells, and 48 soaker pads.
We do a load of diapers almost everyday.
Which isn't that much considering the amount of laundry we wash anyway!
It's simple.

We don't have to worry about flushing the cloth diaper clean before we wash it.
Once the girls eat more solids and have more solid poop, whatever plops off easily comes off, if it doesn't then it goes to the wash.  No scrapping, no flushing, no spraying.
Just PLOP!

It's SO easy.
When we wash, it's a hot prewash with a normal cycle.
Then we air dry our shells.
The soaker pads go into the dryer.  We have an old dryer so it takes 2 runs through the dryer.
Presto! It's done.

It's much easier then I had expected.
It's definitely doable for anyone!
