Apple Time

Did you know that October is National Apple Month?

This weekend we took the girls to an Apple Orchard.  We've been going every year since we've moved to Omaha and LOVE it.  (We didn't go last year with the girls just coming home from the NICU)

When we got to the Applefest it was COLD out, so we stayed bundled up for awhile.

Every season change, I think of things that I want my girls to remember.  I want them to thing of fall and going to pick apples, playing in the leaves and riding in the combine with Grandpa.  Yes, that will be later, much later {grin}

Lovin' on Mama for the apples!

The girls had a great time this year with the apples, and so did we!

When it was time to eat some lunch, I couldn't have been more proud.  We put out a blanket and the girls sat down with their sippy cups and ate carrots out of their bowl. It was their first picnic!

But they really liked the little apples we found in the orchard for them to munch on... just their size  {grin}

While the girls enjoyed their apples and carrots we enjoyed hot dogs.  Not just any hot dogs.  Possibly some of the BEST hot dogs!  Milwaukee Weiners from Sioux City, IA provided hot dogs as they do every year.  They make AWESOME hot dogs.  John ate FOUR of them actually.  We found out during the Applefest that they're actually going to be on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Foodnetwork!  That doesn't surprise us!

Beautiful!

And of course a couple of photo ops!

There is something about going through my cook books looking for recipes.  I have exciting plans for homemade apple crumble pies, tortes and dips. I can't wait until the girls can help bake with me.  I'm sure it will result in crumbs and messes everywhere, but it will be well worth it!
For now I'll just enjoy them digging through the bags of apples, take a bit out of it and putting it back!
